News from Gladstone

Covid Plus+

Covid Plus+ is the new term. Everything seems to be on hold or changed significantly due to Covid so rather than focussing on what we cannot be doing, we decided to focus on what we can, thus Covid plus (+) was born. The most rewarding outcomes of Covid for our parish has been a time to think about things and a chance to pray more. As we reflect, we recognise what we have been doing well as a parish and what we could also be doing. Being led by the spirit, this “down time” has provided an opportunity to open our hearts to what God is calling our parish to maintain and also become.

Star of the Sea Feast Day – 12th September 2020

Glastone_2.jpg

Our parish celebrated our Feast day with a special mass on Saturday 12th. Fr Simeon organised a cake to be celebrated with representatives who highlighted the differing parts of our parish: the young, the old, and the various ministries. Whilst the year hasn’t allowed for a bigger celebration, Our Lady, Star of the Sea still holds a special place in our hearts.

APRE Thoughts

We have been blessed to hear the thoughts of our local Assistant Principal – Religious Education in our three Catholic primary schools. Each month on our parish Facebook page we have shared brief stories of our APREs’ thoughts on faith and life.

CCRDFV – by Annette Rowe

Every year the Coordinated Community Response to Domestic and Family Violence [CCRDFV] in Gladstone, invite the community to attend a gathering to acknowledge those who have lost their lives through Domestic and Family Violence, and to show their support to family and friends.

This year, they were not able to gather as they usually did due to COVID-19, so instead they invited us to show our support by having our photo taken at the Avenue of Peace [Friend Park, Barney Point] on Tuesday 5th May.  The photos were then combined into a video that was shared via the CCRDFV’s social and electronic media on 6th May, when the Gladstone Community would usually have gathered together. The link below shows that video:

Women helping women grow

A steering committee has been appointed to facilitate the beginning of a Gladstone Catholic women’s group. Its aim is as the heading says, women helping women grow. After the next few weekends of informing parishioners and obtaining interested contacts, the steering committee will meet to set up the first event for the women’s group. It is open to single women, married mothers and grandmothers alike. Watch this space!!
